In Tennessee, where Mom was from, it
was good luck to eat black-eyed peas, along with ham and cornbread, on New Year’s Day. I used to
bring my black-eyed peas back from the States until I found out they actually have them at
the Srilankan store down the street. We try to perpetuate the tradition every
January 1st. Happy New Year!
